I know I'm a wee bit late, but I wrote this up a little bit back and I feel it should be posted. This whole thing was sparked by an incident with one of my friends on September 25th.
-----------------------
The policy I am referring to is the Department of Defense's Don't Ask,Don't Tell policy. I don't believe in this policy, which could be why I am angered by it. If somebody could explain to me how somebody's sexual orientation can affect their ability to protect and serve their country. Than I just might believe in the DADT policy. But because I can't find a good,non-cliche,meaningful fight for this policy, I believe it should be nonexistent.
I know if one good person, in particular, that would give his life in the military for our country. This man's sexual orientation is public, which he fine with. But in recent events, he has become worried that the openness of of his sexual orientation may affect his career in the US Navy. I would like to quote the post posted by the person who was trying to end his career:
"Why should we allow gays in the military? Especially ones as oplenly gay as this? FB> Formspring>"
I just don't get why an openly gay man, who has already stated that he will perform to the best of his ability just like everyone else, can't serve his country because he his gay while my relative can do the same job without being in jeopardy because he is straight.
Explain...
Clearly, this angered me greatly. Here is the original post from my gay friend:
